  • TIME TRIAL TT | NASA-NV

Compete in NASA Nevada Time Trial events. Measure your fastest lap, improve your skills, and compete in a structured, class-based program. Your pathway in to racing with NASA NV NASA Wheel to Wheel racing Lap time is what counts Timed competition built around your fastest lap. Drive in dedicated Time Trial sessions, compare your times with others in your class and work on improving throughout the weekend. NASA's Time Trial Program INNOVATION Get Started with NASA NV TT Become a member and unlock your path to HPDE, comp school, and wheel-to-wheel racing. JOIN NOW JOIN NOW How to Get Started in NASA Nevada Time Trial (TT) NASA Nevada Time Trial offers a competitive, timed environment where drivers push their limits without the complexities of wheel-to-wheel racing. Whether you're progressing from HPDE or transitioning from another organization, there are multiple clear paths into Time Trial with NASA NV. Option 1 — Traditional HPDE Progression Path This is the standard route for drivers coming up through NASA’s coaching and development ladder. Drivers will: Progress through the NASA HPDE program (HPDE1 → HPDE2 → HPDE3 → HPDE4). Demonstrate consistent pace, situational awareness, and safe driving practices in HPDE4. Receive a recommendation from the HPDE4 Group Leader confirming readiness for TT. Submit a Time Trial License Application to NASA. This path is ideal for new or developing drivers who want a structured, progressive way into competitive timed sessions. Option 2 — Experienced Drivers From Other Organizations Drivers with significant track experience or timed competition experience (e.g., SCCA Time Trials, Global Time Attack, PCA, BMW CCA, etc.) may enter TT through licensing review. Drivers will be evaluated based on: Documented track experience Verified lap times from other events In-car video demonstrating pace, consistency, awareness, and car control Event results or timing sheets showing performance relative to peers Notes: Experience must be meaningful and current. A “paper license” without actual driving experience is not sufficient. This option is best for drivers already comfortable with open passing and fast-paced sessions. Key Points & Resources for NASA Nevada Time Trial Time Trial uses the same performance-based classification structure as NASA’s Super Touring (ST) program. Important: TT classing information is not found in the Time Trial rules but in the Super Touring regulations. Class Equivalencies: SU / GT → TTU / TTGT ST1–ST4 → TT1–TT4 ST5–ST6 → TT5–TT6 Drivers must review the Super Touring rules for full details on power-to-weight ratios, modifiers, penalties, aero allowances, tire rules, and more. Classing Calculator The official NASA ST/TT Classing Calculator must be used to determine your correct class. Drivers will input: Dyno data Vehicle weight Modifications Displacement or power adders Aero configurations The calculator determines the appropriate TT class and identifies any penalties or modifiers. Dyno Certification Requirements A valid Dyno Certification Form is required for all TT competitors. Important notes: The most common questions are answered on page one under “Dyno Testing Procedures.” Drivers must read all 14 bullet points carefully to ensure both you and your dyno operator follow NASA procedures correctly. Proper dyno documentation is mandatory for class compliance. Annual Tech & Logbook All TT cars must complete Annual Tech before competing. Key points: TT cars receive a NASA Logbook marked “TT Only.” The Annual Tech sticker for TT vehicles is placed on the lower driver-side windshield. (Race cars receive theirs higher up or near the roofline.) The Annual Tech form is the same used for wheel-to-wheel race cars. Although TT cars are only required to meet HPDE minimum tech standards, drivers are strongly encouraged to exceed them.

  • WHY CHOOSE NASA? | NASA-NV

Choose NASA Nevada for professional events, real racing opportunities, and a proven driver development pathway. The premier gateway to motorsports in the Silver State. With professional instruction, structured programs and opportunities for every experience level, you can take your driving as far as you choose. More than just a Track Day NASA NV Sign up for NASA membership. Become part of a true racing family in Nevada—track time, competition, and unmatched camaraderie. SIGN UP SIGN UP We know you have various groups to choose from. So here is some of what makes NASA NV stand out as Nevada's premier sports car racing and high performance driving organization: The NASA High Performance Driving Event (HPDE) provides you with an experienced instructor to help guide you through the event, one on one, as you learn how to handle your car at the limit. You set your own goals and only go as fast as you feel comfortable going. Progress as far as you wish in your own car at your own pace, become a safer driver on the street, and have a blast along the way! NASA HPDE is “the best money you will ever spend on your car.” How? All you need is a safe car and a helmet. The car can be bone stock and does not have to be fancy or fast and if you don’t have a helmet we have plenty of loaners as well. Students bring everything from Hyundais to Ferraris. As a general rule, most late model closed top vehicles in good condition will pass technical inspection. Even convertibles with factory rollover protection (or aftermarket roll bars) are allowed. NOTE: If a vehicle has been substantially modified, specifically any of the safety items (Ex: seats, belts, fuel tank/cell, etc.) they will need to conform to NASA race preparation rules. Who? Anyone with a driver's license and NASA membership may participate (16 or 17 w/parental consent). Many different types of people enter our events. The number of women who are taking our courses has steadily increased and most are very eager to enhance their driving skills. A lot of husbands and wives also team up and use only one car which makes things more convenient. There are many teenagers and young adults who receive a school entry compliments of their parents who want to teach their kids to be safer drivers. Note- All passengers must be at least 18 years old. Please read the full rules referred to as our CCRs for further details. Group Levels: We have four HPDE groups, which means we separate drivers based on their experience and skill level. All HPDE groups get 3-4 sessions with each session lasting ~20 mins each throughout the day with classroom/briefing sessions in between. Group 1: “Beginner” drivers that have never been “signed off” by an instructor for solo track driving. We automatically provide a certified in-car instructor as well as informative classroom discussions for each HPDE1 driver at no extra cost. Passing other cars in Group 1 is limited to the designated straights for the ultimate in safety. Group 2: “Novice Solo” drivers are those who have some track driving experience and have been “signed off” to drive solo by a qualified instructor. Signing up for Group 2 may require a check ride. Passing other cars in Group 2 is only allowed on straights after the driver of the lead car signals. Group 3: “Intermediate” drivers are those who have participated in a variety of HPDEs on more than one track and have been “signed off” by an instructor for each track driven. Passing other cars in Group 3 has some restrictions but usually allowed anywhere on the track after the driver of the lead car signals it is safe to do so. Group 4: “Advanced” are those who have significant experience. Passing other cars in Group 4 is typically unrestricted as long as it is done with courtesy. Climbing the HPDE Ladder: Demonstration of acceptable awareness, judgment and car control skills will allow a student to “move up”. How quickly this can happen is purely dependent upon the progress made by the individual driver. Moving up typically requires a “check ride” with an instructor or designated member of the NASA staff. After exhibiting sufficient skill and experience in HPDE4 drivers may attend a NASA Competition Licensing school to go racing or apply for a NASA Time Trial License or even apply to become a certified HPDE instructor and help us teach the next generation of drivers how to go fast safely and responsibly. Our Instructors: Instructors are provided and required for all drivers in Group 1 because they are very effective at relaying all levels of information while showing drivers both the fastest and safest way to get around the track. NASA instructors must attend clinics and follow guidelines to get and keep their certification, and must follow a standardized curriculum. This standardization is the key to keeping NASA events the safest because it assures that all students are following the same rules on the track. All instructors are on hand primarily for love of sport, to help you be safe, go faster and have more fun! Efficiency: We know your time is valuable so we do not waste it. This starts with your first message to our regional staff, which we try to respond to within minutes or hours – not days or weeks. Once your questions have been answered and you are ready to sign up, our clean and simple event registration system was built and is maintained entirely in-house just like our websites, which means if you have any problems the solution is just one quick email or call away anytime. Event details, entry lists and tentative schedules will be available on the event page. Registered participants will also receive a confirmation email with everything they need before arriving. Once at the track there is usually no check-in, most participants will get their wristbands from group leaders after the drivers meeting. This all means shorter lines and less wasted time on the usually quite busy first morning of an event. Again this is to make it so you have more time for fun – and relaxation in between! Safety: Putting on safe events is the cornerstone of our organization, almost all our rules and procedures are in place for safety reasons. At the track we staff all appropriate corner stations with specially trained flagging & communications workers and don’t cut corners on this or any other area of safety. We have dedicated, fully equipped safety / rescue trucks and ambulances and tow trucks on full-time standby should the need arise. These advantages can make the difference between life and death in a serious accident. Track Time: We offer as much track time as possible for your dollar spent, not to mention your weekend spent away from home. Best of all you can enter two groups for a significant discount, as a “Supersize” entry, and get twice as much track time if that’s what you are after! We also put a lot of time and energy into making sure the track time we offer is high quality and that you get everything you paid for whenever possible, so our “dollars per minute of seat time” ratio is among the best in the business as a result.

  • WHEEL TO WHEEL RACING | NASA-NV

NASA Nevada delivers competitive wheel to wheel racing, offering safe, professionally managed events for licensed racers and developing drivers. NASA NV Wheel to Wheel Racing From experienced track driver to licensed racer, take your next step with NASA Nevada. How to Go Road Racing With NASA Paths to Earning Your NASA NV Competition License NASA Nevada offers three clear pathways for drivers looking to enter wheel-to-wheel racing. Each route is designed to ensure drivers meet a consistent standard of skill, safety, and race-readiness. Option 1 — Traditional Progression Path This is the most common route for drivers coming up through the NASA system. Drivers will: Progress through the full NASA HPDE ladder (HPDE1 → HPDE4). Accumulate 8+ days of experience in HPDE4 or receive a strong recommendation from the HPDE4 Group Leader confirming race readiness. Attend and successfully complete a NASA Competition School. This path is ideal for drivers who want a structured, skill-building journey from their first track day to their first race start. Option 2 — Existing Race License From Another Organization Drivers with legitimate wheel-to-wheel experience and a current race license from another sanctioning body may apply directly for a NASA Competition License. Important clarifications: NASA will not accept drivers who have only attended a school and received an “automatic” license with limited or no real racing experience. Each driver is evaluated on merit, based on documentation and evidence they provide. Examples of acceptable supporting evidence: Recent race results (ideally showing lap times or total time against others in the same class). Note: finishing position or season points alone are not sufficient. Proof of experience: number of races completed, years racing, or series history. In-car video footage demonstrating racecraft, awareness, and control. In some cases, high-quality video may be all that is required. This option is best for drivers who have already been racing competitively elsewhere and want to transition into NASA. Option 3 — Private Licensing Path Designed for advanced or expert drivers who want to begin racing with NASA immediately and prefer a custom-tailored licensing experience. NASA will provide a private, one-on-one styled competition school, personalized to the driver’s skill level, car, and goals. Prerequisites include: Reading and understanding the NASA CCRs. Submitting a completed and paid Competition License application. Submitting and receiving approval for the Medical application (doctor exam or self-certification, depending on eligibility). Owning a race-ready car that has already passed a NASA Annual Tech inspection. Securing a unique NASA-approved race number. This is the most streamlined path for drivers who are already deeply experienced and simply need NASA certification. Competition School (“Comp School”) Details Participants are strongly encouraged to use a fully compliant race car, though this is not strictly required as of November 2025. A “race car” must include: Full roll cage Window nets Fire system Electrical kill switch Disabled steering lock Current SA-rated helmet HANS (or equivalent) Full fire-rated driver gear Medical Requirements A NASA Medical is not required to attend Comp School. However, drivers with a valid medical and a car that passes Annual Tech may be allowed to compete in the actual NASA race on Sunday, pending satisfactory performance in the school. Expiration Timeline Drivers must enter at least one NASA sprint race within 12 months of completing Comp School. If not, they may be required to repeat the school. Drivers are expected to read and understand the NASA CCRs before attending. Get Started with NASA NV Racing Become a member and unlock your path to HPDE, comp school, and wheel-to-wheel racing.
